Thinking about getting a display banner to use at an exhibition?

Pull up and wrap-around display banners are a standard piece of exhibition kit for most businesses. Often used to ‘dress’ the empty exhibition pitch they form a backdrop to the people operating the stand but also help to draw attention to your stand. The design of your banner should complement and fit in with all the other marketing materials you have at the show and reflect your corporate branding, colours and logo.

A banner can give your exhibition stand more impact with visitors, help you stand out in a crowded room and contribute towards your corporate branding.

It’s acts as a large advert to draw attention to your location, to display your logo to passing attendees and to present your corporate branding.  A  good display banner will get your stand noticed across a busy exhibition hall and help to draw in visitors.

It is worth considering what visitors to the show are looking for. If they are looking for information on products or services think about how you show what you do on your banner to help visitors see the thing that interests them. You could use pictures of your products or spell out your main services on the banner to draw visitors over to your stand to make contact. If the exhibition is likely to have more than one company who have similar services to yours try to think about if there is something you can do to differentiate your own stand and show customers your unique proposition.

Pull-up style banners are usually around 2 metres tall and slightly less han a metre wide depending on the system. Your printer will be able to give you the exact dimensions so you can have artwork made up to the correct size. Don’t forget to include these essentials on your banner:

  • Your logo
  • Telephone number
  • Website address
  • Pictures of your products, or details of your services

There is nothing to stop you from including:

  • Team photos
  • A picture of your shopfront if you have one
  • Photos of your delivery vans
  • Customer testimonials
  • Email address

Something worth remembering is that the information on the top one-third to one half of the banner will be the easiest to see over the heads of the crowd. Also, if your stand has a table and you decide to put the banner behind it for space reasons then the bottom half of the banner will be hidden from view. Choose the most important pieces of information and make sure they are at the top of your banner so they can be seen as easily as possible.

When including text you will want it to be legible from a distance and you will need to use a large type size to make sure it can be read from the other side of the room, cut down unnecessary text where possible.

Your logo and any other images will need to be high resolution so they still look crisp. Logo files should ideally be vector images (e.g. Adobe Illustrator or EPS files) while photographs should be at least 300dpi and large enough so they do not need to be blown up excessively and risk becoming pixellated when printed. Your printer will be able to give you guidelines for resolution and size of photographs.

Your exhibition banner will be portable enough for you to keep it in the boot ready for the next event but it can also be used to liven up dull office spaces or in your reception area. Banners may also be useful for networking events or if you plan to give a presentation have it on the stage with you.
